The Castellan's model farm
Located 2 km from Sümeg Castle, the farm has been operating since 2005 as the supply farm for Hotel Kapitány Wellness **** superior. The subsistence farm is located on an idyllic spot on the shores of a magnificent natural lake, where native breeds such as ‘Mangalica’ pigs and other famous Hungarian pig breeds root the land, and young horses appearing at the Knights’ Tournament graze. The animals bred here, as well as the horses featured in the historic tournament feed on the fodder produced by the farm so you can be sure that they are taken good care of.
When preparing homemade products we consider it important to use traditional methods (smoking, marinating).
Our meals, which are not only delicious but also healthy, are prepared in the hotel’s restaurant and the Castle Tavern by using high-quality ingredients partly deriving from the Castellan’s model farm. Nutrition is the basis of a harmonious and fit lifestyle; as the saying goes, "You are what you eat." Handmade products prepared by traditional methods are more nutritious, and their natural nutritive value and mineral content can be even 300% higher than those of the industrial products.
The products of the model farm (Hungarian sausage, hot and normal salami, smoked ham, and cracklings) and the cheeses of Sümegtej are big favourites of our guests. Those who come to us to relax also crave for culinary experiences in addition to the refreshment of the body and soul. This completeness is ensured not only by our handmade products but also by the wellness area of our hotel, our pampering services and unique relaxation programmes.
Guests can also buy our artisanal delicacies in the hotel's bar, allowing them to bring a little Sümeg atmosphere into their own homes.
