Historical Equestrian Games

08. 05. 2023 - 31. 12. 2025.  (Wednesday, Saturday)

Take a look at our unique programs in Hungary, with them we would like salute our heroes of the frontier fortress.

The Historic Event Hall, which is located in the Historical Theme Park and has a medieval atmosphere, is the venue for the Historical Equestrian Games of Sümeg, which is highly acclaimed in Hungary and throughout Europe. In modern times, the equestrian games evoking the Middle Ages was first to be viewed at us in Hungary. The games include a Spanish horse show and a knights’ tournament featuring weapon demonstration and jousts on horseback and on the ground. Beyond the environmental elements, the medieval atmosphere is truly reflected in the costumes of our characters and the background music. To top the evening off, following our programme, our guests can enjoy the rich flavours of an authentic medieval feast in the Great Knights’ Hall.

Description of the programme:

At the start of the show, we will dazzle you with a Spanish horse show. The gentle movements of the Castellan’s Andalusian horses, in harmony with the music, provide an unmatched sight and experience. Our excellent riders give an impressive presentation of the wide repertoire of the Spanish Riding School.

The Spanish equestrian show is followed by a Mongolian horse stunt show and the Knights’ Tournament. The main elements of the performance were taken from the knights' tournaments known in the Middle Ages, so weapon skills - archery, battle star, hatchet, spear throwing - on foot and in horse -, equestrian and infantry battles (with swords, shields, mace, etc.) are also parts of the show. The characters always wear contemporary costumes, and our narrator and the appropriate background music enhance the atmosphere and quality.

A medieval feast follows the program. During the feast, gipsy music is played, and costumed warriors and damsels serve the guests. Following the traditions of the era, meals are eaten with hands.
